KERATOMETER MEASURING TECHNIQUE Placing Patient in Instrument Prior to putting the patient in the headrest of the instrument the chin and head rests should be wiped with an alcohol swab or a tissue placed on the chin rest. The patient should be seated comfortably and the instrument adjusted to the height of the patient. The patient is asked to rest their chin in the chin rest and to bring their forehead tight against the headrest. A common mistake is for the patient to be too low (instrument too high) and for the patient's forehead to be away from the headrest. The patient should be asked to grasp the instrument just in front of the chinrest so that they will stay as still as possible during the measurement.
